Our Story

In Affordable Housing, Inc. (IAH) is a Little Rock–based nonprofit that has expanded affordable homeownership and housing stability across Arkansas since 1994. IAH is a HUD-certified Housing Counseling Agency and a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), pairing housing counseling with affordable housing development to move low- and moderate-income families toward homeownership and the wealth that comes with it.

Who We Serve
IAH concentrates on the households that benefit most from our work: first-time buyers, renters, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and families earning low to moderate incomes. Through our comprehensive housing counseling program, we provide homebuyer education, pre- and post-purchase counseling, financial capability coaching, rental counseling, and foreclosure prevention — preparing families to buy, to stay, and to build equity.

Our Affordable Housing Development

As a CHDO, IAH develops, builds, and rehabilitates affordable housing. We utilize a diverse range of funding sources and partnerships to make our projects possible:

• Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC): Using LIHTC, IAH has rehabilitated three multifamily communities — Meadow Park (Rogers), Ross Apartments (Arkadelphia), and Ashdown Apartments (Ashdown) — totaling 176 affordable rental units serving residents at or below 60% of area median income, with units reserved for seniors and people with disabilities.

• Donations and Gifts-in-Kind: Generous contributions from individuals and organizations help fund our work and provide essential materials for our housing projects.

• Strategic Partnerships: IAH collaborates with a network of partners, including financial institutions, government agencies, and other nonprofits, to leverage resources and expertise for maximum impact.

• Affordable Housing Grants: We actively pursue and utilize grant funding from federal, state, and local sources to support our affordable housing initiatives.

Through this multi-faceted approach, we have built and rehabilitated more than eighty single-family homes, concentrated in Pulaski and Dallas counties. Since 2023, we have also acquired and returned ten vacant or foreclosed Little Rock properties to the affordable housing inventory.

Our Impact
Across three decades, IAH's work represents an estimated $650 million in cumulative economic impact across Arkansas — direct housing development plus the home purchases, savings, and household wealth created for the families we have counseled into ownership.

Our Partners
IAH partners with financial institutions to extend down payment assistance, CRA-aligned investment, and homebuyer referral pipelines. We actively welcome new banking partners committed to closing the homeownership gap for Arkansas families.

IAH serves households statewide, with our deepest reach in the twelve-county Central Arkansas region.
